First, you need a good editor. Misplaced capitals as in your 'What Kind of Plans and Exposure do I need to seek?' will put off some potential clients. If you won't accept that loss, with whom will you argue? Consistency being king, changing your ideas about when to use capitals will put off more potential clients. If you insist on 'What Kind of Plans and Exposure…' why use standard English capitalisation for 'do I need to seek…'? If it's 'What Kind of Plans and Exposure…' why is it not also 'I Need to Seek…'?– Robbie GoodwinCommented Nov 12, 2024 at 22:37

Some things to consider
General Thoughts
- Which country?
- Have you thought about a Business Plan?
- Who are my competitors?
- What can I do to be better than my competition?
- Why should a customer choose me?
- Who is your target audience? (define them precisely)
- How much money do you need upfront?
- Which company type (Ltd. what not; In Germany we have GmbH, AG, OHG, KG ...)
Legal requirements
- Terms and conditions (seek legal advice)
- Do i need licences for my software business?
- Who is liable?
- Company name already chosen?
- Insurances (in case people try to sue you)
- Contracts (seek legal advice)
IT wise
- Do I need a website?
- Get a
.com
domain - E-Mail service
- In case of a SaaS thing:
- Hosting?
- Cloud or Bare metal?
- Get open source software (It is cheaper and more customisable and does literally the same as paid software)
- Hosting?
- At some point you will need a CRM/ERP System (you need it later on and the more you are used to it the more effectively you can handle your customers)
- Is my client's data secure?
- DO I HAVE BACKUPS
Tax wise
- How do I have to do taxes? (depends on your country)
- Get an accountant before you have issues with taxes
- keep a record of all your bills, orders, clients whatever
- Put away a certain amount of money for taxes
Marketing
- How can I reach my clients?
- What are your core values?
- Get a company identity (colours, fonts,...)
The most important aspect of starting a business is getting clients. How to do that depends on where you are (your location), what type of clients you want, and your own capabilities.
For example, if you are in a major city, then potential clients are all around you. Create a brochure and start walking the business district handing it to the receptionist. I know one person who built a business that way.
